Getting Started with Sack Farming in Limited Spaces

Sack farming is one of the most accessible ways to start growing crops — all it takes is a sturdy sack, good soil, and a sunny spot, making it ideal for urban compounds, small backyards, or land-constrained farms.

Because sacks can be arranged vertically and close together, farmers can grow significantly more per square meter than with traditional row planting.

It's also a low-cost entry point into farming, which is why it's one of the techniques we teach in our community training programmes — including our work with Women for Women International.
